# MassArt’s 2020 MFA Thesis Exhibition Goes Virtual

[Massachusetts College of Art and Design](https://bit.ly/2Axvoll?ref=hyperallergic.com)’s [2020 MFA Thesis Exhibition](https://bit.ly/2ThA4lY?ref=hyperallergic.com), on view via [Kunstmatrix](https://bit.ly/2z92zeO?ref=hyperallergic.com) from May 19 through June 18, 2020, showcases the work of ten graduate students in the final year of their respective Master of Fine Arts programs. Amidst the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, this spring’s show goes fully virtual, with an online exhibition curated by [MassArt Art Museum](https://bit.ly/3fYy9wh?ref=hyperallergic.com) executive director Lisa Tung and a permanent [exhibition website](https://bit.ly/2XmIGsX?ref=hyperallergic.com).

Visitors will find a range of work, from [Harlan Crichton](https://bit.ly/3bDlUC0?ref=hyperallergic.com)’s disquieting color photographs of pyrotechnics to [Halie Smith](https://bit.ly/2AxzA4z?ref=hyperallergic.com)’s skillful contemporary landscapes that focus on labor and class. Alongside [Zhidong Zhang](https://bit.ly/2XbWne3?ref=hyperallergic.com)’s constructed photographic scenes of fantasy, fetish, and desire are [Nate Heilman](https://bit.ly/369mHta?ref=hyperallergic.com)’s cement and found object sculptures, channeling memories and relics of combat. Photographer [Jen Mawson](https://bit.ly/2yeeCa9?ref=hyperallergic.com) explores abandoned neighborhoods and forgotten towns in a narrative of loss, flight, and economic decline. 2D artists [Tara Hayes](https://bit.ly/3cEdNq9?ref=hyperallergic.com) and [Hung Ju Kan](https://bit.ly/2XbpBcL?ref=hyperallergic.com) portray mental spaces, Hayes playfully overlapping real, altered, and fictional lands, and Kan mapping memories brought to life by combining flower-patterned fabric with impressions of an unfamiliar place. [Huiquan Jiang](https://bit.ly/2WIZjzI?ref=hyperallergic.com) and [Neetu Singhal](https://bit.ly/36boNJ6?ref=hyperallergic.com) both examine a universal spiritual realm through their large-scale paintings, while [Li Wang](https://bit.ly/3cJNW06?ref=hyperallergic.com) navigates his own existence in two opposing countries and cultures through painting, drawing, and sculpture.
