# Noose Found Outside Washington’s National Gallery of Art

On Saturday afternoon, a noose was found hanging from a lamppost outside the [National Gallery of Art](https://www.nga.gov/content/ngaweb.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) in Washington, DC, the [Associated Press](http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Another-Noose-Found-Near-Museum-in-Nations-Capital-429140043.html?amp=y&ref=hyperallergic.com) reported. The US Park Police is investigating the incident.

It was the [third time](https://hyperallergic.com/two-nooses-discovered-at-smithsonian-museums-this-week/) in the past month that a noose has been found in or near one of the museums on the National Mall. On May 31, a noose was discovered inside the National Museum of African American History and Culture; on May 26, one was found near the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

As CNN [reported](http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/18/us/noose-found-national-gallery-of-art/index.html?ref=hyperallergic.com), the racist symbol has turned up at least five times throughout the DC area in recent months, from the National Mall to the [University of Maryland](https://alert.umd.edu/node/962?ref=hyperallergic.com) campus.
