# Pacific Standard Time Returns with Sprawling Latin American and Latino Art Program

This week, the Getty’s long-awaited initiative on Latin American and Latino Art in Los Angeles, [*Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA (PST: LA/LA)*](http://www.pacificstandardtime.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com), officially kicks off, with dozens of exhibitions opening at venues all across Southern California. From a survey of [pre-Columbian luxury objects](http://www.pacificstandardtime.org/en/exhibitions/exhibit/view/Luxury-and-Legacy-in-Ancient-Americas?ref=hyperallergic.com) at the Getty to the Hammer’s show on [Radical Women](http://www.pacificstandardtime.org/en/exhibitions/exhibit/view/radical-women-latin-american-art-1960-to-1985?ref=hyperallergic.com) artists in Latin America to [Ken Gonzales-Day’s photographic survey of LA murals](http://www.pacificstandardtime.org/en/exhibitions/exhibit/view/Surface-Tension-Ken-Gonzalez?ref=hyperallergic.com), *PST: LA/LA* ambitiously attempts to capture the breadth of hundreds of years of art from Latin America and by Latina/os in the US.

To celebrate the opening, a [day-long launch party](http://www.pacificstandardtime.org/en/events/event/view/launch-party?ref=hyperallergic.com) will take place this Thursday in Downtown’s [Grand Park](http://grandparkla.org/event/pacific-standard-time-lala-launch-party/?ref=hyperallergic.com), featuring live music, dance, workshops, and food trucks. In between performances ranging from traditional Latin American folk music and Brazilian dance to salsa, hip-hop, cumbia, and jazz, visitors can explore various installations, such as “[¡Momento!](http://spinagu.com/momento?ref=hyperallergic.com),” an information kiosk and reading room designed by Spinagu, and the traveling “PST: LA/LA Mobile,” which offers previews of many of the works on view through interactive technology.

If you’re not sure where to start your *PST: LA/LA* experience, Thursday evening at 7pm, Brazilian artist [Anna Maria Maiolino](https://annamariamaiolino.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) will be restaging her 1981 performance, “[Entrevidas,](https://www.moca.org/program/anna-maria-maiolino-entrevidas?ref=hyperallergic.com)” in which she scatters dozens of eggs on the ground and attempts to navigate them, in conjunction with her current [MOCA retrospective](https://www.moca.org/exhibition/anna-maria-maiolino?ref=hyperallergic.com). And, on Sunday, 50 of the participating institutions — from Ventura to Palm Springs to San Diego — will be offering [free admission all day](https://www.facebook.com/events/945519465587910/).
