# Picasso, Matisse and Monet Among 7 Masterpieces Stolen from Dutch Museum

According to a brief that [BNO News](http://www.bnowire.com/inbox/?id=1189&ref=hyperallergic.com) translated from the Dutch police, seven works of art were stolen from the [Kunsthal Rotterdam](http://www.kunsthal.nl/en-2-Kunsthal-Rotterdam?ref=hyperallergic.com) in Holland this morning. The massive art heist includes pieces by Picasso, Matisse, Monet, and Lucian Freud, among others.

As can only be expected from such a complete robbery, BNO News notes that it seems to have been planned in advance. Police have taken security footage from the museum and detectives are speaking to possible witnesses. The Dutch site [Deondernemer reports](http://www.deondernemer.nl/deondernemer/647550/De-zeven-geroofde-kunstwerken.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) that the theft occurred around 3 am CEST this morning, and the police made it public around noon.

The [*Chicago Tribune*](http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/sns-rt-us-crime-dutch-paintingsbre89f0ox-20121016,0,5745387.story?ref=hyperallergic.com) notes that the museum had just opened a new exhibition a few days ago to celebrate its 20th anniversary, featuring some of the artists whose work was stolen. More than 150 paintings in the show came from the Triton Foundation, a private collection. There is no word yet as to who owns the stolen paintings.

The full list of stolen works, which ranges from Impressionism through contemporary figurative painting, follows:

- Pablo Picasso: “Tête d’Arlequin” (1971)
- Henri Matisse: “la Liseuse en Blanc et Jaune” (1919)
- Claude Monet: “Waterloo Bridge, London” (1901)
- Claude Monet: “Charing Cross Bridge, London” (1901)
- Paul Gauguin: “Femme devant une fenêtre ouverte, dite la Fiancée” (1988)
- Meyer de Haan: “Autoportrait” (circa 1889 – ’91)
- Lucian Freud: “Woman with Eyes Closed” (2002)
