[*Toward Equity in Publishing*](https://s.si.edu/3B7lDaL?ref=hyperallergic.com) is a professional development program provided by the peer-reviewed journal [*American Art*](https://s.si.edu/3RTNeSK?ref=hyperallergic.com), co-published by the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) and University of Chicago Press. It is supported by a $64,000 grant from the [Dedalus Foundation](https://www.dedalusfoundation.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com).

This initiative aims to remediate the inequitable conditions that precede and impede publication in the field of US-American art history. Through editorial mentorship and workshops, the program will demystify scholarly publication processes and help scholars revise manuscripts for submission and publication. There is no obligation for the participants to publish with *American Art*, nor for the journal to publish their work.

**Eligibility Criteria**
This program is for untenured faculty, junior museum staff, independent scholars, and unpublished graduate students producing research on US-American art history and related visual culture topics. It prioritizes applicants whose experiences will broaden diversity in the field, including those who are first-generation college or graduate school attendees, or who have not received institutional funding (fellowships, grants, scholarships, or paid leave) in the past two years. Applicants need not meet all criteria.

**Applications for *Toward Equity in Publishing* are due September 15, 2022\. To apply, visit** [**americanart.si.edu**](https://s.si.edu/3B7lDaL?ref=hyperallergic.com)**.**

**Seeking Advisors**

[**Research Fellowships at SAAM, 2023–2024**](https://s.si.edu/3omkxAo?ref=hyperallergic.com)
Residential fellowships at SAAM and its Renwick Gallery support full-time, independent research and study on the art, craft, and visual culture of the United States. SAAM seeks a diverse pool of applicants and especially welcomes candidates with an understanding of the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in the field of American art. Paid fellowships are available at the graduate, doctoral, postdoctoral, and senior levels. [Apply by November 1, 2022](https://s.si.edu/3omkxAo?ref=hyperallergic.com).
