Pussy Riot member Maria Alekhina has ended her [hunger strike](https://hyperallergic.com/pussy-riot-rocker-declares-prison-hunger-strike/) 11 days after it began, the [Associated Press](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/01/pussy-riot-hunger-strike-maria-alekhina%5Fn%5F3371688.html?utm%5Fhp%5Fref=arts&ir=Arts&ref=hyperallergic.com) reports. The feminist activist and punk rocker declared her strike after a Russian judge barred her from attending a court hearing about her parole, saying the court was violating her rights. She was hospitalized early last week, though it’s unclear if that contributed to her decision to end the protest. The AP spoke with Pyotr Verzilov, the husband of other jailed Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova. According to him, Alekhina ended the strike after officials at her prison colony returned security to its normal state. She had previously complained that officials tightened security in an attempt to turn her fellow inmates against her. Verzilov said the prison’s compliance with Alekhina’s protest “must have been a political decision.”

Meanwhile, a Moscow court rejected Pussy Riot’s appeal late last week, ruling that their jail terms were appropriate and that the case — which sentenced band members Alekhina, Tolokonnikova, and Yekaterina Samutsevich for “[hooliganism motivated by religious hatred](https://hyperallergic.com/pussy-riot-is-sentenced-to-2-years-in-prison-for-hooliganism/)” — was not political. [Russia Today](http://rt.com/politics/pussy-riot-reject-appeal-956/?ref=hyperallergic.com) has this quote from chairwoman of the court Olga Yegorova: “There are no politics, they are just hooligans.” Alekhina and Tolokonnikova’s lawyer, Irina Khrunova, called ruling was “predictable” and plans to file a complaint with the Russian Supreme Court.
