Since teaming up in 2010, the duo of [Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener](http://www.rashaunsilasdance.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) has expanded the boundaries of contemporary dance, drawing on various other forms of media to create hybrid performances. These have included [choreographed responses to seminal works of abstract expressionism](http://www.rashaunsilasdance.com/number271950/?ref=hyperallergic.com), explorations of Mexican fashion and craft with [designer Carla Fernández](http://www.rashaunsilasdance.com/carla/?ref=hyperallergic.com), and a [dance-installation](http://www.rashaunsilasdance.com/pharmacaphore/?ref=hyperallergic.com) inspired by medicine and pharmaceuticals.

Described as a [queer, sci-fi space odyssey](https://www.chicagoreader.com/Bleader/archives/2017/03/23/the-multidisciplinary-tesseract-explores-queer-identity-through-the-lens-of-science-fiction?ref=hyperallergic.com), [*Tesseract*](https://www.redcat.org/event/charles-atlas-rashaun-mitchell-silas-riener-tesseract?ref=hyperallergic.com) is perhaps the most ambitious production to date from these veterans of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, a collaboration with pioneering video artist [Charles Atlas](https://hyperallergic.com/33323/a-letter-to-merce-cunningham/) that combines live dance with 3D video. Atlas — a longtime Cunningham collaborator who started out as his stage manager in the 1970s — will also be live-mixing footage of the dancers, which will then be projected back onto the stage, creating a vibrant fusion of real and digital spaces.

When: Thursday, November 30–Saturday, December 2, 8:30pm nightly; Sunday, December 3, 3pm ($12–$25)
