Dogs in Wes Anderson films typically have a bad time. In *The Royal Tenenbaums*, a beagle dies in a car crash; in *Moonrise Kingdom,* a fox terrier gets pierced by an arrow; in *Fantastic Mr. Fox,* a beagle (another one) gets roofied; in [*The Life Aquatic with Steve Zisou,*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=%5Fm6qPNCuf8g&ref=hyperallergic.com) Jeff Goldblum smacks a helpless three-legged pooch upside the head. Now, perhaps to clear his [reputation as a dog-hater](http://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/does-wes-anderson-hate-dogs?ref=hyperallergic.com), the Oscar-winning director is [reportedly](http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/wes-andersons-next-movie-is-a-stop-motion-animated-film-about-dogs-may-also-do-an-anthology-movie-20151009?ref=hyperallergic.com) working on a stop-motion animated feature all about dogs.

Details of the project are still under wraps, but the [*Playlist*](http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/wes-andersons-next-movie-is-a-stop-motion-animated-film-about-dogs-may-also-do-an-anthology-movie-20151009?ref=hyperallergic.com) reports the film is already in pre-production. Anderson will maintain his fealty to [old school, analogue production design](http://www.fastcodesign.com/3042014/how-designers-built-the-world-of-the-grand-budapest-hotel-by-hand?ref=hyperallergic.com), using the handmade stop-motion aesthetic made famous in *Fantastic Mr. Fox,* which helped earn Anderson an Oscar nomination in 2009\.
