Have you ever found yourself sitting in a museum or gallery trying to watch a film or video work while struggling to tune out countless distractions? If so, BAM’s [Migrating Forms](http://www.bam.org/film/2017/migrating-forms?ref=hyperallergic.com) offers this simple yet enticing solution: come watch it in a movie theater! For its eighth year, the series continues to pick standouts from biennials, festivals, museum exhibitions, and other venues for moving-image works.

This year’s slate features programs devoted to the Canadian art collective [General](http://www.bam.org/film/2017/general-idea-program-1?ref=hyperallergic.com) [Idea](http://www.bam.org/film/2017/general-idea-program-2?ref=hyperallergic.com), the director-turned-artist [Cauleen Smith](http://www.bam.org/film/2017/cauleen-smith-program1?ref=hyperallergic.com) (who was just [interviewed by Hyperallergic](https://hyperallergic.com/a-moving-image-artist-finds-freedom-after-abandoning-the-film-industry/)), and the experimental filmmaker [Leslie Thornton](http://www.bam.org/film/2017/leslie-thornton-program1?ref=hyperallergic.com). Also included is a selection of films by [Jonathas de Andrade](http://www.bam.org/film/2017/jonathas-de-andrade?ref=hyperallergic.com), among them his poetic and surprisingly sensual “O Peixe” (recently [reviewed in Hyperallergic](https://hyperallergic.com/the-strange-eroticism-of-fishermen-caressing-dying-fish/)); a half-dozen works by [Sondra Perry](http://www.bam.org/film/2017/sondra-perry?ref=hyperallergic.com) (several of which were included in [her show at the Kitchen last year](https://hyperallergic.com/police-brutality-and-the-possibilities-of-evil/)); and more than a dozen pieces by [Tomonari Nishikawa](http://www.bam.org/film/2017/tomonari-nishikawa?ref=hyperallergic.com), including five of his playful sketch films. If that lineup somehow isn’t enticing enough, consider another advantage of seeing experimental films and video art in this context: popcorn.
