Museums in St. Louis are closed today due to the [protests](http://news.yahoo.com/no-indictment-chaos-fills-ferguson-streets-083434303.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) that have been underway in the suburb of Ferguson since last night, when the grand jury in the Michael Brown murder case announced its decision [not to indict](http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/michael-brown-shooting/profoundly-disappointed-michael-brown-family-reacts-lack-indictment-n255436?ref=hyperallergic.com) police officer [Darren Wilson](http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/25/justice/ferguson-grand-jury-documents/index.html?ref=hyperallergic.com).

According to the [*St. Louis Post Dispatch*](http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/art-museum-history-museum-are-closed-today/article%5F85af8e0a-3f50-5dfe-8863-7ef1b706ec7b.html?ref=hyperallergic.com), the [Missouri History Museum](http://www.mohistory.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com) closed an hour early on Monday, at 4pm, and will remain closed [today](http://www.mohistory.org/node/10370?ref=hyperallergic.com). “Museum leaders made the decision to close to allow museum staff to be with their families at this time,” a Missouri History Museum statement said.

This morning the [St. Louis Art Museum](http://www.slam.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com) announced on Twitter that it, too, will be closed for the day. The museum [tweeted](https://twitter.com/STLArtMuseum/status/537220929147785217?ref=hyperallergic.com): “In response to widespread civil unrest, and out of an abundance of caution, the Art Museum will be closed today.”

The Federal Aviation Administration has also been diverting certain inbound flights away from St. Louis International Airport in response to reports of guns being fired into the air in Ferguson, which is immediately east of the airport, according to the [Associated Press](http://nypost.com/2014/11/25/st-louis-bound-flights-rerouted-amid-ferguson-protests/?ref=hyperallergic.com).
