She invented plastic surgery journalism, helped Andy Warhol make his first perfume, hosted the Velvet Underground’s first Philly concert, and commissioned Roy Lichtenstein’s “Super Sunset Billboard.” That 1967 artwork, a remake of which is on view in the late Pop artist’s exhibition at the Whitney, is one of countless projects she has wrangled into being from behind the scenes. In an exclusive interview today, the indefatigable Kron regales reporter Isabella Segalovich with a slice of those riotous stories, with more to come in her memoir titled *The Renegade Housewives of Pop Art* — I’ll be first in line at the bookstore. I didn't study with Hoyt Sherman as he was on sick leave at the time, but, as a freshman, I did experience the flash lab! As I remember it was very very dark. There were partitions between you and the person next to you, so your whole focus was on the white, bright screen which flashed images at an impossible speed and you were supposed to draw them with big chunks of charcoal on huge pads of newsprint! What fantastic visual training...to see "the overall," the "gestalt," very fast...so different than worrying about if something is good or what it means. I have not seen this show yet, but I am very excited to see it! The paintings of firing military hardware look great.
