The past weekend was marked by massive unity marches all over France sparked by the [*Charlie Hebdo* massacre](https://hyperallergic.com/four-cartoonists-among-12-dead-in-attack-on-french-satirical-magazine/), and the [BBC](http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-30765824?ref=hyperallergic.com) estimates as many as 1.6 million people took part in protests in Paris alone. [Cities](http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/paris-attacks-london-lights-up-landmarks-in-show-of-unity-with-france-9971200.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) [around](http://time.com/3663295/empire-state-building-dark-french-flag-charlie-hebdo/?ref=hyperallergic.com) [the](http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/pens-raised-barcelona-nantes-solidarity-paris-victims/?ref=hyperallergic.com) [world](http://www.dw.de/charlie-hebdo-solidarity-marches-sweep-world/a-18184746?ref=hyperallergic.com) continue to show their support, and world leaders linked arms during the Paris rally — though US President Barack Obama was notably absent.

Last night *The Simpsons* joined in with a two-second tribute that cast the family’s eternal baby, Maggie, in a hybrid role that was a combination of [Marianne](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marianne?ref=hyperallergic.com), the national symbol of the French Republic, and [Cosette](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les%5FMis%C3%A9rables?ref=hyperallergic.com#mediaviewer/File:Ebcosette.jpg) from the original edition of *Les Misérables*.

But the most nuanced and respectful tribute might have been paid by Albanian Prime Minister [Edi Rama](https://twitter.com/ediramaal/status/554239010542198784?ref=hyperallergic.com), who is an artist himself. The political leader sported three colored pencils (blue, white, and red) as a pocket square and honored both the artists killed and France.
