The [MFA in Studio Art at UT Austin](https://bit.ly/46ZQ1lN?ref=hyperallergic.com) is a fully funded two-year program for artists working across and between disciplines. We admit 12–15 students annually who work closely with professionally active faculty in weekly studio visits while developing their practices within a small, focused cohort.

Every admitted student receives the same financial package: full tuition coverage, a $21,500 annual stipend, health insurance, and private studio space ranging from 300–800 square feet. This funding structure remains consistent across both years without reapplication, allowing students to focus on their work without financial uncertainty.

The program is organized around five areas — Painting + Drawing, Photography + Media, Print, Sculpture + Extended Media, and Transmedia — but adapts to individual practices rather than prescribing them. Faculty maintain active exhibition schedules and research practices while prioritizing studio teaching. The [Visiting Artist Program](https://bit.ly/4q5OOC8?ref=hyperallergic.com) and [Viewpoint Series](https://bit.ly/3KGpjr3?ref=hyperallergic.com) bring established artists, curators, critics, and scholars for lectures and studio visits, while the [Guest Artist in Print Program](https://bit.ly/4nFdIad?ref=hyperallergic.com) invites contemporary printmakers for week-long collaborative residencies.

Students have access to private studios and extensive shared facilities:

- Sculpture lab with fabrication equipment, welders, plasma cutters, mold-making facilities, and a kiln
- Four print labs for intaglio, relief, lithography, serigraphy, and a risograph room
- Photography lab with digital and darkroom facilities and large-format printers
- Digital fabrication lab with 3D/UV printers, laser and waterjet cutters, engravers, and CNC machines
- Transmedia Lab with VR headsets and equipment for audio/video and performance production
- A well-equipped woodshop

The program includes funding for summer residencies at Skowhegan, SOMA Mexico City, and Ox-Bow. Join us at our [Virtual Open House](https://bit.ly/3IPdU7H?ref=hyperallergic.com) on Thursday, November 6, from 6–7pm (CT) for the opportunity to learn more about the program and ask questions of staff, faculty, and current grads.

Suggested Application Deadline: December 15, with all materials due January 10, 2026.
