Upstate New York is preparing for an art-filled weekend of exhibitions and events with the participation of more than 61 local museums, galleries, artist studios, and other art institutions. The event will mark the second edition of the [Upstate Art Weekend](https://www.upstateartweekend.org/?ref=hyperallergic.com), a three-day celebration of art that will begin this Friday, August 27.

Founded last year by Helen Toomer of the artist residency [Stoneleaf Retreat](https://www.stoneleafretreat.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) in the Catskill Mountains, the inaugural edition featured 23 art spaces across the Hudson Valley. As most COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted this year, the number of participating venues almost tripled, spanning indoor and outdoor locations on both sides of the Hudson River, from Garrison to Chatham.

“Upstate Weekend Art is about community, collaboration, art, and the outdoors, which are essential to our well-being," said Toomer in an announcement. "We are thrilled the event has grown so much and cannot wait to connect more visitors with the arts in the Hudson Valley.”

Participating organizations include museums like Dia Beacon, Magazzino Italian Art, the Dorsky Museum, and the Hessel Museum of Art at Bard College. Parks and open-air museums like Storm King Art Center in New Windsor and Art Omi in Ghent are participating too. So are dozens of artist collectives and residencies, including Amenia Crossroads Studios, Interlude, Rachel Mica Weiss Studio, Mohonk Arts, and others.
