[](http://bit.ly/2OdEzwo?ref=hyperallergic.com)For students starting the [MFA in Visual Art program](http://bit.ly/2OdEzwo?ref=hyperallergic.com) in Winter 2019, Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) will offer a new [Distinguished Artist scholarship](http://bit.ly/2Ii5XnW?ref=hyperallergic.com). Awarded to two incoming students from across the country and Canada, it will reflect the College’s continued support of diverse students from a variety of cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds. The scholarship pledges financial aid to half of their entire tuition in the program.

Financial support within this group is often the foremost anxiety of many applicants. “My biggest concern was the cost of attendance,” said one new student, discussing his hesitation to even apply to graduate programs at all.

“I have conversations with prospective students that are new parents, or whose children are in college. Some are in repayment for their undergraduate loans or are considering the impact of grad school on other life investments, like buying a home,” said Director of Admissions, Lucy Bourgeault. It is with this in mind that VCFA offers financial support, through need-based and merit scholarships for admissions applicants each semester.

“As our current culture values other priorities, we are further committing to supporting emerging artists,” states Visual Art Program Director, Danielle Dahline, “and with the Distinguished Artist scholarship, to help artists who view the MFA as a transformative and powerful tool.”
