Join us Friday, May 14 at 8pm for a special talk by Brooklyn artist [William Powhida](http://williampowhida.blogspot.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) on “**Surviving the Art World Using the Art of Sorcery**.”

Described as a “gadfly in the art establishment” by the [*New York Times*](http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/07/arts/design/07powhida.html?%5Fr=1&ref=hyperallergic.com), “an irresistible double-dipper and ingenious double-crosser” by the [*Los Angeles Times*](http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2009/11/william-powhida-at-the-charlie-james-gallery.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) and a “stupid twerp” by the editor of [Artnet Online Magazine](http://williampowhida.blogspot.com/2010/03/what-does-walter-robinson-think-about.html?ref=hyperallergic.com), Powhida is a mercurial personality who has been investigating new ways to survive the volatile and Janus-faced art world. His latest path of query has led him to the dark art of sorcery.

His talk at Hyperallergic HQ promises to reveal some of the inner-workings of his mind and we’re all excited (and scared) to see what he has in store for us.

Space is very limited (25 tickets) **SOLD OUT**. Please RSVP place your name on the waiting list [here](http://hyperallergic2.eventbrite.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com).

*NOTE: Powhida has just added* [*a post*](http://williampowhida.blogspot.com/2010/05/contemporary-composite-art-magic.html?ref=hyperallergic.com) *to his blog about the event. It includes an image of one of his new talisman works.*
