# Williamsburg Luminary Meredith Allen Passes Away

On March 17, artist [Meredith Allen](http://www.meredithallen.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) (1964-2011) passed away after a three year battle with cancer. Gallery owner Ed Winkleman has an obituary of Allen [on his blog](http://www.edwardwinkleman.com/2011/03/in-memoriam-meredith-allen-1964-2011.html?ref=hyperallergic.com).

We’ve reproduced an image from her popular *Melting Ice Pops* series that, Winkleman writes, are “addictively sensuous images \[that\] became Meredith’s break-out series and are included in many collections around the world.”

Allen is survived by her longtime partner, artist Carol Saft, and her dog Iggy, who she was featured in a number of her works.
