# New Tumblr Looks at Art in the Process of Installation

LOS ANGELES — There’s only one thing I love more than art installations. And that’s watching an art installation come together. This past year, I had the pleasure to work on a number of complex art installations and learned so much about the works, their structure, the artists’ thinking. Every art lover should have this opportunity.

[Wrapit-tapeit-walkit-placeit](http://installator.tumblr.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com) is one of my new favorite tumblelogs. As implied by its URL,installator.tumblr.com, wrapit-tapeit is a group tumblelog of installations coming together. We can watch [Jim Hodges’ boulders coming together at the Walker](http://installator.tumblr.com/post/20910009049/iteeth-right-now-jim-hodges-giant-boulders?ref=hyperallergic.com) (“and my they’re shiny” declares the blog), and [a quiet moment of the Mona Lisa on its way back to the Louvre after World War II](http://installator.tumblr.com/post/8999297758/the-mona-lisa-being-transported-back-to-the-louvre?ref=hyperallergic.com).

The tumblelog succeeds in its simplicity, offering a quick glimpse at the complexities of art installations, which are a triumph of project management and the understanding of materials. And with more pieces, like Michael Heizer’s “[Levitated Mass](http://installator.tumblr.com/post/11028449609/joe-schofield-left-walks-along-the-giant-steel?ref=hyperallergic.com),” incorporating the installation as the part of the art work, the tumblelog offers a lovely look at how artists (and their hard working teams) bring their work to life.
