It was an immeasurable loss for art writers and lovers when [John Berger died at the age of 90](https://hyperallergic.com/john-berger-who-helped-the-world-to-see-dies-at-90/) last month. But Berger did not only write [stellar art criticism](https://hyperallergic.com/john-bergers-rare-art-criticism/); he was also a novelist, poet, painter, and charming television host. Hyperallergic’s senior editor Jillian Steinhauer and I have organized [a tribute to Berger at Soho’s beloved McNally Jackson Books](http://www.mcnallyjackson.com/event/ways-remembering-tribute-john-berger?ref=hyperallergic.com) on Monday, February 20, to honor his many talents and faces. Writers [Teju Cole](http://www.tejucole.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), [Ben Davis](http://www.benadavis.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), [Amitava Kumar](https://www.amitavakumar.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com), and [Susie Linfield](https://journalism.nyu.edu/about-us/profile/susie-linfield/?ref=hyperallergic.com) will join us in reading excerpts from Berger’s incisive criticism and equally perceptive fiction. We will also be screening clips from [*Ways of Seeing*](http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00dtnvm/episodes/guide?ref=hyperallergic.com), the 1972 BBC series in which he charismatically and deftly analyzes the ways in which we look at art, from how we’ve objectified women to how photography transformed our ways of consuming images.

If you come, please be sure to say hello to Jillian and me!

**When:** Monday, February 20, 7pm
**Where:** McNally Jackson Bookstore (52 Prince Street, Soho, Manhattan)
