# A New Movie on Picasso's Early Life Screens This Week

This Friday, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey will screen [*Exhibition on Screen: Young Picasso*](https://www.artcenternj.org/2019/02/22/the-art-center-and-the-film-society-of-summit-partner-for-film-series/?ref=hyperallergic.com)*,* directed by Phil Grabsky. The event is a part of their documentary film series on the contemporary art world, held in collaboration with [The Film Society of Summit](https://www.summitfilmsociety.com/?ref=hyperallergic.com). “Events like these offer different avenues into the conversation on contemporary art,” said Sarah Walko, Director of Education and Community Programs at the Visual Arts Center. “Films, specifically, show the details of artists’ lives, artistic processes, and stories surrounding the work in a format that is informative and entertaining. Further, pairing the film series with the Art Center’s winter/spring exhibitions creates a complementary experience for people who are interested in art.”

The first film in the series, *Kusama Infinity*, was screened last month, and *Exhibition on Screen: Young Picasso* will be the second of three, with the final film, *306 Hollywood*, to be screened on May 4\. *Exhibition on Screen: Young Picasso* looks at the Blue Period and Rose Period of Picasso’s career, taking viewers through Picasso’s rise through the art world.
