Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) is proud to present the MassArt 2022 MFA Summer Thesis Exhibition: Where I’m Coming From, on view at MassArt x SoWa through August 14. The exhibition showcases the work of 10 Low-Residency Master of Fine Arts graduate students.
Featured artists include Charity Be, Heather A.F. Binder, Eileen de Rosas, Tammie L. Dupuis, Alvin Guo, Ted Hinman, Roneld Lores, Christina Marcantonio, Tammy Skiver Maxson, and Joe Quinn.
Curated by MassArt Art Museum Curatorial Fellow Michaela Blanc, the exhibition takes its name from the 1971 Stevie Wonder album. Blanc says, “The works in Where I’m Coming From exemplify the experimentation and interchange that take place in educational settings, where new narratives go against art historical traditions.”
A public “First Friday” reception will be held at MassArt’s SoWa gallery on August 5 from 5–9pm (EST), in addition to several related on-campus and offsite MFA Thesis events. A student-curated companion exhibition, Common Ground, is on view through August 12 at MassArt’s Doran Graduate Gallery.
The featured graduates will present public artist talks on Tuesday, August 2, and Wednesday, August 3 at 4:30pm (EST) on campus and via Zoom. Register to hear more about the thesis work, graduate program experiences, and broader artistic practices of the 10 featured MFA candidates. These artist talks are free and open to the public.
