Terra Wang (MFA ’23), “Untitled” (2022), inkjet print, 40 x 30 inches

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University presents the thesis work of 23 graduates of the Masters of Fine Arts program. On view May 5–21 at the Tufts University Art Galleries in Medford, Massachusetts, Been Here Before is organized by guest curators Jasper A. Sanchez and Michaela Blanc.

This exhibition reflects ideas of home, familial structures, and cultural ties; intimacy, invisible labor and care; memorialization and belief systems; projections of the self, feminist practices, and other investigative processes that redefine ideas of place and belonging.

In the words of the graduate artists, “Been Here Before is based on the thought of returning or revisiting, whether that is a return home, a return to previous ideas, revisiting constructions before our time, or even revisiting memories.” Visitors will encounter a multidisciplinary presentation of painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and performance, showcasing how each artist has expanded their practice in the MFA program while learning together.

A public closing reception is going to be held at the Tufts University Art Galleries on May 19 from 6:30 to 8:30pm and will feature programmed performances and activations by graduate artists.

Been Here Before features SMFA at Tufts graduates Catalina Pastrana Acosta, Hannah Jacoby-Brooks, Abby Clemens, Phi Day, Anabel Hadad, Ran He, Sammy Polinsky, Lori Schouela, Raya Shanawani, Amanda Pickler, Camille Kershner, Maggie Knutzen, Tristan Lajarrige, Felipe López Flórez, Pardis Alipour, Terra Wang, Cassidy Westjohn, Noor Chadha, Cecilia Karoly-Lister, Nallieli Santamaria, Çaca Yvaire, Mrudhu Vijayakumar, and Daniel Li.
