A Series at the Hirshhorn and Newseum Focuses on Art & Free Speech
Presented in association with the exhibition Ai Weiwei: Trace, this conversation series will include perspectives from artists, journalists, activists, and academics.
To mark the exhibition Ai Weiwei: Trace, the Hirshhorn and the Newseum in Washington D.C. have partnered to present a series of talks that consider the role of art and free speech in the 21st century. The lineup includes an array of acclaimed artists, journalists, activists, and academics.

Spotlight on China with The Washington Post’s William WanSaturday, Oct. 14, 2017, 2:30 p.m.
The Newseum’s Knight TV Studio, Level 3
Wan, who has met and interviewed Ai Weiwei, will discuss the impact of Ai’s art on the world and will discuss human rights conditions in China as well as the impact of Communist Party policies on the people in that country.

Nato Thompson, artistic director of Creative Time, will lead a conversation with artists Laurie Jo Reynolds, Pedro Reyes, and Paul Ramírez Jonas on how their art directly confronts legislative and social issues and engages contemporary audiences.
