Art Movements is a collection of news, developments, and stirrings in the art world.

The Bronx Museum of the Arts has finished its $1 million acquisitions campaign, with over 40 works for its 40th anniversary, including those by Martin Wong (shown above), Elizabeth Catlett, Vito Acconci, Raphael Montañez Ortiz, and Glenn Ligon.

In the first significant change of the laws of nonprofits in New York in 40 years, the state legislature passed an overhaul that will make incorporation, dissolution, and merging easier for nonprofits, while at the same time instituting tighter regulations for acountability.

The Whitney Museum will be opening the first major retrospective in the United States for Robert Indiana this September, called Robert Indiana: Beyond LOVE.

Harris Liberman Gallery in Chelsea closed its final show on June 15, with co-founder Jessie Washburne-Harris joining Metro Pictures as director.

The immigration bill that would make it easier for foreign artists to get visas was passed in the Senate.

A restraining order was secured by the United States against the sale of Pablo Picasso’s “Compotier et tasse” (1909), estimated at $11.5 million, at the Italian government’s request.

The Dia Foundation is selling part of its collection at Sotheby’s to amass an acquisition fund.

The Frieze London 2013 projects were announced, including commissions from Andreas Angelidakis, Gerry Bibby, Rivane Neuenschwander, Ken Okiishi, Angelo Plessas, Lili Reynaud-Dewar, and Josef Strau, with Angelidakis providing the architectural structure for the six other projects, which will rotate like stages for participatory performances.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has done away with its shiny metal buttons and their ever-changing colors, due to their costs, with paper tickets and stickers starting Monday.

EXPO CHICAGO announced that it’s launching two prizes for the Chicago art community, one to support an artist working in the area, and another to provide the money to buy work by an emerging artist for the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.

After saving it in 2011, the Museum of the City of New York stepped out of its support of the South Street Seaport Museum to focus on its own operations, in a large part due to the destruction of Hurricane Sandy.

Triple Canopy’s drive to raise $100,000 to improve and develop further its online publishing platform is wrapping up on July 1, with the campaign currently just a few thousand dollars from the goal.
