As an African photography scholar of Congolese descent, I have dedicated more than 10 years of my research to the study of the Congolese people’s history of their own images.

Sandrine Colard
Sandrine Colard is Assistant Professor of Art History at Rutgers University-Newark (USA) and an independent curator, based in New York City and Brussels (Belgium). Holding a Ph.D. from Columbia University (2016), Colard is a historian of modern and contemporary African arts and photography. She is the author of multiple publications and is a 2021–2022 Getty/ACLS fellow for her book project about the history of photography in the colonial Congo.
