Nat Hentoff was a producer, not a star, nor even the type of director who gave himself an occasional cameo. History is not much good for remembering producers, despite the fact that no shows go on without them.

Thomas Devaney is a poet and the author of Calamity Jane (Furniture Press Books, 2014) and The Picture That Remains (The Print Center, 2014). He was awarded a Pew Fellowship in the Arts in 2014. His book Runaway Goat Cart is forthcoming from Hanging Loose Press (spring 2015). He teaches at Haverford College.
