Artists Teach You How To Make Collaborative Drawings, DIY Reliquaries, Read Tarot, and More
The third edition of the omnivorous BombPop!Up series of workshops and performances takes over the National Academy of Design.

From alternative art schools and more traditional academies to online tutorials and independent workshops, there’s no shortage of ways for the aesthetically inquisitive to learn how to make art today. But few experiences can quite match the eclecticism and delight of BombPop!Up, an artist-run series of events now in its third iteration, taking place this weekend at the National Academy of Design.

Under the guidance of National Academician David Humphrey, the weekend’s offerings will include crash course presentations and tutorials on everything from creating reliquaries and pagan votive candles (with artist Sheila Pepe), to a collaborative drawing session led by frequent collaborators Caroline Wells Chandler and Jennifer Coates, and a tarot reading class led by painter Inka Essenhigh. And don’t worry, all that learning will be accompanied with plenty of opportunities to unwind, with nightly performances and coordinated movement experiences (i.e. dance parties).
When: Friday, June 15–Sunday, June 17
Where: National Academy of Design (5 East 89th Street, Upper East Side, Manhattan)
