Browse Terrific Tomes and Exquisite Whatsits at the New York Antiquarian Book Fair
The fair returns to the Park Avenue Armory on March 9–12, showcasing a rich and eclectic range of rare books and historical objects.
Where can you see a library’s worth of miniature books housed within a faux normal-sized book from early-19th century France, casts of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s hands, an audio cassette containing an unpublished interview with Andy Warhol (and signed by the artist), and Robert Frost’s walking cane? The New York Antiquarian Book Fair.
Even if you’re lacking in disposable income, you can still peruse the eclectic selection of rare tomes and precious objects on view at the fair’s 57th edition, which features 200 exhibitors. Among the most enticing booths are that of the Cleveland-based dealer Productive Arts — which deals in Russian Futurism and Constructivism, as well as Soviet montage, offering posters, prints, books, and magazines — New York City dealer Zucker Art Books — which specializes in artists’ books by Modern and contemporary masters — and Boston’s F.A. Bernett Books — which is showcasing a portfolio of about 500 political protest posters.
But be sure to browse beyond the art-focused booths; how else will you find the exhibitor showing a Dutch illuminated Bible from the 14th century?
