The National Parks Arts Foundation (NPAF) — a nonprofit dedicated to sustaining arts residencies, workshops, and other exhibits in and around the National Parks — announces its new Hawaii Photo Workshops for the end of November.

The LavaOceanSky Workshops will jet an intrepid group of photographers all around the Big Island of Hawaii. They will travel off the beaten path, away from the tourist hotspots to places the locals know are special — part of the sacred allure of the Big Island. The LavaOceanSky Workshops place a special focus on an insider’s journey to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, truly one of the most spectacular parks in the US Park System.

This workshop also features visits to active volcanoes and traditional and cultural sites, as well as optional underwater photography and off-the-map aerial photography by helicopter.

The NPAF offers two separate iterations of the workshops on two consecutive weekends. Both will be personally led by the founder of the National Parks Arts Foundation, Tanya Ortega, who lives part of the year in Hawaii. She’s also the head curator of all of NPAF’s residency programs. This constitutes a unique and limited opportunity, as there are only five places in each workshop, with all proceeds going to fund residencies and expand programs in many parks locations.

The National Parks Arts Foundation is the only organization that provides its residencies nationwide in a variety of park landscapes. For information about the residencies and other programs that NPAF offers, visit www.nationalparksartsfoundation.org.
