New Exhibition 'Experiments in Art and Digital Technologies' Opens April 29

The exhibition “Experiments in Art and Digital Technologies” will feature the work of six pioneering artists with distinct individual styles.

The range of media employed by these artists ranges from the earliest fine art techniques to the latest digital technologies including: clay to environmental interactive video and immersive 3D; pen and ink notebook drawings; wall sized, hand colored printouts and paintings; digital photography; and tapestry portraits incorporating neurological data. What all of these artists have in common is the employment of digital technology to push art in bold new directions, engaging audiences in multi-dimensional experiences of form, texture, color, and space.

Artists include:

  • Margie Hughto, mixed media artist, renowned for her monumental public art works, is exhibiting ceramic wall pieces and sculpture from her Excavation Series, “The Collection” and “The Dig installations.
  • Barbara Nessim, fine artist and illustrator, investigates gender roles and the representation of women in contemporary culture. She is showing Stereo Pairs with viewers and archival prints informed by her sketchbooks.
  • Darcy Gerbarg, known for pioneering the use of computers in her art practice, is showing paintings, ceramic sculpture, archival and silkscreen mono-prints, created by separating color from line, abstracting and deconstructing nature.
  • Lia Cook, a leading innovative fiber artist, creates striking contemporary portraits, built on the traditional fiber craft of weaving. She is exhibiting both large and intimate portraits, some having visualized data woven back into them.
  • Vibeke Sorensen, known internationally for her captivating abstract 3D animations, and her engaging environmental installations, is creating a site-specific, interactive multimedia work, for this exhibition.
  • Linda Law, known for her cutting edge work in new media, including digital holography and 360° photography, exploring multidimensional interactions with the natural world, is exhibiting studies of light on water.
  • Barbara Cadranel, who will be playing the harpsicord for special performances taking place during the closing reception on May 5th 6–9 pm.
  • Cynthia Goodman, was the Consulting Curator for this exhibition.
