Open Call 2027: Jentel Artist Residency
A Mountain West residency for artists, writers, and composers.
Located 20 miles southeast of Sheridan, Wyoming, the UW Neltje Center’s Jentel Artist Residency, now in its 25th year, offers dedicated individuals a supportive environment to further their artistic development. Jentel offers 3-week residencies from mid-January through early December with private studios and access to Wyoming’s natural beauty.
We welcome visual artists in all mediums; writers in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry; and composers in all genres of music. Artistic merit and promise form the basis for selections. Established as well as emerging artists are encouraged to apply.
Jentel lies in the Lower Piney Creek Valley with spectacular views over scoria-topped hills to the majestic Bighorn Mountains. Five new and two renovated structures evoke the agricultural and historical setting of the valley and echo the sweeping lines of the foothills and mountains.
Accommodations for each resident include a private room, a shared living area and kitchen, and a separate studio space. A $300 stipend helps defray the cost of living and food expenses. Typically, three artists, two writers, and a composer are invited to participate in each of 11 annual 3-week sessions.
The application deadline for the Winter/Spring 2027 residencies (January through April) is September 15, 2026.
Applications for Summer/Fall 2027 residencies (May through November) open on October 1, 2026, and close on January 15, 2027.
