Otis College of Art and Design in LA Offers a Two-Year MFA Fine Arts Degree Program
Refine your artistic vision and join a diverse community at the first professional school of the arts in Los Angeles.
In the MFA Fine Arts program at Otis College of Art and Design, we believe artists thrive when they can explore a wide range of approaches in artmaking and all its related disciplines.
Our program provides an artistic learning environment where artists of different backgrounds and creative practices can flourish together. Our courses, studios, labs, and galleries are welcoming places where everyone in our community can develop as artists and as engaged participants in society.
MFA students have 24/7 access to individual working studios. They are also guaranteed at least one semester of a Graduate Teaching Internship or Graduate Assistantship. Students receive access to painting, sculpture, and lighting studios; state-of-the-art wood and metal shops; photography, video, film, printmaking, and ceramics labs. A mid-residency show, annual open studios, and a final thesis show offer ample opportunities for exhibition over the course of the two-year program.
Distinguished alumni include Carlos Almaraz, Alonzo Davis, Roberto Gil de Montes, Judithe Hernandez, Vita Kari, Alison Saar, Masami Teraoka, and Kent Twitchell.
The Einstein Visiting Artist Lecture Series at Otis College brings distinguished artists, designers, and creative thought leaders to campus to engage with students and the public. Past guests have included Doug Aitken, Kelly Akashi, Dawoud Bey, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Theaster Gates, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Edgar Heap of Birds, Shirin Neshat, Hank Willis Thomas, Jeffrey Vallance, Kara Walker, Zoe Whitley, and Anicka Yi, among others.
Priority deadline for fall entry is January 15 and October 1 for spring. After these deadlines, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis as space remains available.
