LOS ANGELES — One of my favorite podcasts these days has to be Science Fridays, by Ira Flatow. While my body and car are stuck in back to back traffic, my mind soars through the depths of knowledge explored in the show.

So how happy was I to hear about Science Friday’s Science and the Arts section? Produced by the same folks who put together the weekly NPR podcast, Science and the Arts aims to “showcase cool projects, interesting ideas, and new research at the intersection of science and the arts.”

While the site has been around for a few years now, it’s better integrated with the Science Friday Twitter account and the new smartphone apps, available for both iOS and Android. While the design isn’t stellar, the accessibility of the videos, audio and text make it easy to catch up on old episodes. It’s easy to create a playlist for that long car ride or subway journey.

What’s brilliant about these options is how they give a visual, interactive supplement to the already engaging radio show. And for the arts-tech nerds among us, it’s just that much more brain fodder to inspire us into new directions, whether that’s arthropod brains or stone age paint.
