OK, fine, I do care about Best Picture, and whether Ellen will pull off her hosting duties, but Best Animated Short Film is one of those off-the-radar categories that seems less predictable and thus more enticing.
Stephen and Timothy Quay became filmmakers entirely by accident. As Stephen recounted during the remarks that concluded the press preview for the artists’ retrospective, which opens tomorrow at the Museum of Modern Art, they were on their way to Amsterdam to take jobs as illustrators when fate intervened in the form of a schoolmate, Keith Griffiths.
This Sunday January 16th, Outpost Artists Resources will be hosting a night of retro animated advertising curated by Willy Hartland, a distinguished New York City animator. The event, Fresher, Smoother, Creamy, and Delicious: Adverts and other Animated Weirdness from the 50s & 60s, begins at 6pm.
