Recently installed in the Gasometer in Germany, Christo’s “Big Air Package” is an ethereal inflatable sculpture. Longtime collaborate and photographer Wolfgang Volz conveyed the experience of being inside: “It is very difficult to describe. I am not a religious person, but should I ever make it to heaven, being inside the ‘Big Air Package’ is what I would think it is like in heaven.”
The artist Christo appeared in Cañon City, Colorado, yesterday to announce the postponement of his controversial “Over the River” project. The 77-year-old artist did not give a new date for the project, saying only that the current legal issues need to be resolved before the work can go forward.
The artist Christo continues to battle to realize his “Over the River” project in Colorado, announcing last week that the controversial work hopes to go up a year later than planned. The new exhibition date for “Over the River,” which involves the creation of a canopy of shiny polypropylene fabric over a 42-mile section of the Arkansas River between Salida and Cañon City, will be August 2015, pushed back from the same time a year before.
