As we prepare to welcome hundreds of guests to a still undisclosed New York City location this Friday, we’re happy to announce that not one but two new speakers will be joining the final Lost Lectures Two lineup:

  • writer Tao Lin, whose new book with poet Mira Gonzalez, Selected Tweets, will surely generate discussion
  • urban explorer extraordinaire Steve Duncan, who will be sharing the secrets of the city’s literal underground

We can’t wait.

A literary innovator, Tao Lin is a poet, novelist, and artist. Reliantly provocative, he’s a singular contemporary voice who has variously been described as genius, daring, hilarious, and sociopathic. Gawker denounced him as “probably the most annoying person we’ve ever dealt with” (before acknowledging his talent becoming fans), while hard-nosed critics have spent countless column inches debating whether his books Shoplifting from American Apparel or Eeeee Eee Eeee are serious literary breakthroughs or elaborate jokes. Underlying this baffled response is a recognition that he is ambitiously trying to capture the spirit of the times, presenting it in all its disaffected glory.

Steve Duncan is New York’s most formidable urban explorer, having plumbed the depths of the city’s sewer system, as well as the undergrounds of Paris, London, Rome, Stockholm, Moscow, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, and LA in a bid to map out the bowels of each urban landscape. In a brief appearance on the surface of our planet, he will unveil the incredible secrets of NYC’s hidden underworld and discuss how his discoveries can be life-changing for those of us on its surface.

As a bonus, there will be free beer provided by Brooklyn Brewery, cider by Rekorderlig, and ZICO Coconut Water, not to mention a specially designed Moleskine notebook giveaway for the first 100 guests.
