On September 25 and 26, the historic district of Taos, New Mexico, will be transformed with 31 works by over 70 artists. The 100% free “un-hangable” art that The Paseo will present is experimental, ephemeral, and participatory.
Artists include CHiKA, a Japanese-born, Brooklyn-based artist who will install a 6.5-foot-high, interactive LED sculpture brought to life through the public’s interaction. Video pioneers Steina and Woody Vasulka will present a work inspired by old-time Czech summer festivals of Woody’s youth — arcades, sideshows, and funhouse mirrors. Video footage of the audience distorted via binary chaos will be projected on adobe walls. Other installations will revolve around literary and culinary arts. Some pieces will reference the centuries-old Spanish and Native American history of the community and the natural wilderness area that encircles Taos. All are interactive.
Eleven of the 70 artists will lead STEAM workshops in Taos schools as part of the STEMarts Lab@The Paseo youth program, created by Taos artist, Agnes Chavez.
