Want to Live in the World's Largest Chest of Drawers? It Can Be Yours for $235,000
Always wanted to live or work in a giant dresser? Now's your chance!

If you were intrigued by the prospect of owning Newark, Ohio’s World’s Biggest Picnic Basket last year, but didn’t have the $5 million asking price, you’re in luck! The “World’s Largest Chest of Drawers” in High Point, North Carolina is up for sale, together with two adjacent lots, for a mere $235,000.
According to Roadside America, the original, 20-foot-tall chest of drawers was built in the 1920s and known as the “Bureau of Information.” Since then, it has been completely remodeled, eventually morphing into the taller Goddard-Townsend style chest it remains today. Two giant socks were also installed, hanging from a middle drawer.

Although the building appears completely random and out of place, it succeeds in drawing attention to High Point’s historic furniture-building and hosiery industries. High Point, once the “furniture capital of the world,” now has far fewer manufacturing jobs, but it still hosts the semi-annual High Point Market, a major event attracting international furniture-makers (Furniture Today calls it “Fashion Week for home furnishings“).
The building has previously been used as a furniture showroom, event venue, and storage space. According to the Triad Business Journal, the current owners bought the property in 2015, and their son sometimes used it as as a music studio where he gave guitar lessons. The article goes on to say that potential buyers have shown interest in converting the building into a coffee shop or a private home.
