Washington University’s MFA programs empower students to expand their creative and intellectual reach. The MFA in Visual Art promotes rigorous inquiry and instills students with the agency and resiliency essential for the next generation of artists. The MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture combines studio practice in illustration and comics with academic training in material culture. We are looking for the best to join us in our new, LEED-platinum facility.

Facilities

MFA in Visual Art (MFA-VA) and MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture (MFA-IVC) studios are located in Weil Hall, the Sam Fox School’s LEED Platinum hub for graduate programs. Students have access to a digital fabrication lab, an expansive printmaking suite, a textile studio, and numerous other spaces for making. Studios are adjacent to the Kranzberg Art & Architecture Library and the Kemper Art Museum, which reopened last fall with Ai Weiwei: Bare Life

Scholarships & Financial Aid

We offer competitive financial assistance, including these full-tuition awards: the Sam Fox Ambassadors Graduate Fellowship, which provides 10 scholarships to Sam Fox School graduate students, plus a travel stipend; the Sam Fox School Director’s Full Scholarships; and several University-wide awards. See the full range of opportunities, including paid assistantships.
