Spotlighting Queer Black Voices in Fashion
The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture presents a panel discussion on the impact of queer Black voices in fashion.

With New York Fashion Week fast approaching, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture is hosting the panel discussion Cut From a Different Cloth: The Queer Black Voice in Fashion. This Wednesday, Dario Calmese, Audrey Smaltz, Kyle Hagler, Edward Buchanan, and Stephen Galloway will sit down to examine “the often under-acknowledged influence, yet undeniable impact of queer Black voices in fashion,” according to the New York Public Library website.
Each of the panelists is an influential artist in the fashion world, working in the mediums of photography, modeling, design, and more, so this is sure to be an informative and interesting discussion.
“Behind many of the fashion industry’s shimmering campaign images, collections, and theatrical runway shows is the creative genius of a queer person of color,” declares the event description.
The event is first come, first serve, though the venue requests that you RSVP here. Be sure to arrive 15 to 30 minutes early to ensure a seat!
