Residencies, Workshops, & Fellowships

Center for Craft – 2026 Craft Archive Fellowship
Four $5,000 awards will be offered to fellows conducting research on underrepresented craft histories. The fellowship will culminate with a featured article on Hyperallergic and a virtual program hosted by the Center for Craft.

Hyundai Artlab - 2026 Artlab Editorial Fellowship
Two art writers at any career stage will each receive $10,000 and mentorship from one of this year’s Advisors, Mira Dayal and Gary Zhexi Zhang, and Artlab Editorial Editor Shannon Lee, as they produce three original articles. Open to applicants globally.

Millay Arts Residencies
Deepen your practice with fully and partially subsidized residencies at the historic estate of poet and activist Edna St. Vincent Millay. Core and Steepletop Residencies include chef-prepared communal suppers and groceries. The application fee is $45–$60.

University of Rochester Department of Art & Art History – Fanny Knapp Allen Artist in Residence
Artists whose practices centers on fiber-based and textile processes can apply for this one- or two-year position beginning July 1, 2026. The salary is between $70,000 and $130,000 (commensurate with qualifications), plus more support for research and production.

Vermont Studio Center – 2027 Artist & Writer Residencies
A Vermont Studio Center (VSC) residency provides the time and space to deepen creative practice. Nestled in the Green Mountains, VSC’s walkable campus provides private studios, a dining hall, and private rooms along the banks of the Gihon River. The application fee is $25.

Japanese American National Museum (JANM) – Irene Yamamoto Arts Writers Fellowship
Emerging art critics of color: The Yamamoto Fellowship offers $5,000 unrestricted awards to two writers of color who write critically about visual art and have less than two years of experience. Virtual Info Session March 5, 2026.

Open Calls for Art & Writing

Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences, New Jersey – Works on Paper
Artists based in the continental US who practice drawing, painting on paper, prints, photography, digital works on paper, and 2D paper constructions can apply to this competition and exhibition juried by Joanna Sheers Seidenstein, Curator in the Department of Drawings and Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The application fee is $35 for up to three entries.

Ephemere Photobook Grant 2026
Send your physical dummy to this Tokyo-based photography platform for the chance to have it published as a fully funded monograph, designed and produced in Japan. The winner will also receive round-trip airfare to Tokyo for the official book launch.

Perelman Performing Arts Center x Civis Foundation – The Democracy Cycle 2026
Artists creating new work in theater, dance, music, opera, and multi-disciplinary performance can apply for this commissioning program, which provides $60,000 in support to each awarded project.

The Vilcek Foundation – 2026 Open Call for Grants
US-based nonprofits that celebrate immigrants in the arts, sciences, education, or through the provision of social services are invited to apply for grants of $5,000 to $20,000.

Jonathan and Barbara Silver Foundation – 2026 Grant for Writing on Sculpture
The foundation will award one $20,000 grant to a writer who demonstrates a serious commitment to writing about sculpture, through fresh thinking on the history, aesthetics, purposes, imagination and/or situation of sculpture.

Anonymous Was A Woman – Environmental Art Grants
Grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to environmental art projects led by women, transgender, and gender-nonconforming artists in the US. Projects exploring interdependence, relationships, and systems through Indigenous and ancestral practices are encouraged.

Creative Capital Awards
Creative Capital provides individual artists with unrestricted project grants between $15,000 and $50,000 to create new works in the visual arts, performing arts, film, and literature.

Franklin Furnace FUND for Performance Art
Each year, Franklin Furnace awards grants of $2,000–$10,000 to early-career artists, who are selected by peer panel review, enabling them to produce major performance artworks in New York City.
