A Red Hot Chill Pepper & Ed Ruscha In a Car, No Punchline But There's a Video

Oh look, it's a promo video featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis and famed painter Ed Ruscha driving in a car (it's LA, after all) and providing soundbites about art.

Los Angeles is desperate to expand its art audience. Its major museums don’t break a million visitors, except the Getty and let’s face it most people go for the gardens, and they keep building more institutions to fill with baubles but the visitors aren’t exactly breaking down the doors.

Enter Pacific Standard Time, which is a major new six month-long California-wide art festival that will take place next month. The buzz abounds for this statewide event that will include over 60+ museums and 70+ art galleries.

But, if LA is going to become a real contemporary art town then they’re going to have to build an audience. And what do LA people love, celebrities. Enter the promo video featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis and famed painter Ed Ruscha driving in a car (it’s LA, after all) and providing soundbites about art.

Will this work? Who knows. It is entertaining? Meh. Our ideas to improve this thing? How about hiring a video artist to do something cool? Or just show this.

LA Times says the next spot is in the series will pair actor Jason Schwartzman and artist John Baldessari.
