"He took a lot of joy in his everyday life. He sought to make really beautiful photos, and strove to make the world a more beautiful place," said his former student.
Pipo Nguyen-duy, a beloved 64-year-old photography professor and the studio art department chair at Oberlin College in Ohio, and his wife, 56-year-old Tran Thi Phong, were fatally shot in their home on Wednesday, October 28.
Nguyen-duy's child and Phong's stepchild, 31-year-old Asia Nguyen-duy (birthname Daniel Jones), has been charged with their deaths and faces six counts of murder, one count of tampering with evidence, and four counts of felonious assault, per Oberlin Municipal Court records.
"I am deeply concerned about the impact of the devastating loss of Pipo to our community," Oberlin President Carmen Twillie Ambar wrote in a statement. "Pipo was beloved. During his years at Oberlin, he touched all of us through his passion for photography."
