Our Saturday post, “Who Do Benefit Auctions Really Benefit?,” has been generating a lot of discussion on the topic of charity art auctions and emerging artists. Last night, artist Steve Lambert shared this comment via Google+ about his response to benefits when he’s asked to donate a work:
Here’s something I gave to a benefit once. The max price was $150/work in this case. [pictured above] This has become a sort of formula for when I get asked to donate work to an auction; I ask “how much do you want the work to be worth?” and then I make the drawing of that amount.
Pretty brilliant, if you ask me.
