Musings & Images from the 2011 Bushwick Open Studios
I admit it, sometimes I’m slow to post something. Case in point, my article on the 2011 Bushwick Open Studios was published in the summer edition of the Brooklyn Rail but I never got around the publishing in here. So, here I go. Posting this piece I wrote before summer started right before the season ends. I’ve also uploaded a whole bunch of photos from my tour of the neighborhood.

Realism, Surrealism and Infographics at Williamsburg 2:ND Fridays
This past Friday May 13th marked Williamsburg 2:ND Fridays, a night of gallery openings and exhibition unveilings. I trekked around the neighborhood from the far north Causey Contemporary all the way down to Like the Spice gallery and checked out the shows. Here are my findings, in photo format.

Brooklyn’s First Art Fair
When the Verge art fair launched Verge Brooklyn, many Brooklyn galleries were peeved that the DUMBO-based event would take away from local galleries scenes. Why would they have to pay to be in an art fair in their own borough when Armory week was the only time they could get out of town collectors to their spaces? Even if the Verge Brooklyn fair began with a bumpy start it was able pull of something no one has tried before, an art fair in Brooklyn

Taking Notice of Scope Miami
SCOPE is the art fair that many people like to disparage but this year’s installment was quite good and worth a trip.
Housed in a large tent near the Art Miami and Red Dot art fairs and, as always, attached to Art Asia, the greater prominence ensured more foot traffic than last year (two gallerists told me sales and traffic were better this year) and the lofty space made it much more conducive to looking at art.
