After revealing the Top 6 trends of ArtPrize from my position as a participating ArtPrize artist, I wanted to compose a second blog post for Hyperallergic that revealed the Top 10 Things I genuinely found interesting during this art event experience.
The idea of ArtPrize as an “open art contest” sounds fantastic, hell, even awesome, but if you thought all the art was going to be good than you were delusional. Enter ArtPrize Worst, the tumblelog. A selection of crappy art that thought it had a chance at the world’s biggest art purse.

You may have heard that Mattel has launched its new Museum Collection of Barbie dolls. Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” and Gustav Klimt’s “Portrait of Adele Block-Bauer I,” these dolls, which are part of a brand cherished by children the world over, aren’t exactly exciting … yawn. What if Mattel was a little more adventurous? Here are our suggestions.

Samantha Beverly (aka @kalofos) has created the funniest example of mail art that has arrived at Hyperallergic HQ yet. In her contribution to the Mail Art Bulletin, Beverly has transformed the greatest piece of contemporary spam — the West African email scam — into a hand-drawn scroll complete with crest and tassled string.
Damien Hirst has been through it all, hosting his own auctions, running a personal factory of assistants and opening art-themed restaurants. But a new venture has him using his talents for the big screen — Hirst will be “curating” art for a big-budget London movie lampooning Hirst’s generation-defining group, the Young British Artists (YBAs).
