This week, the doctor wants to cheer you up and get you out of the house! She knows that stupid Sandy has you stuck inside for now, but once it’s blown over, the doctor has plans for you: openings all around town starting on Thursday, plus a conference devoted to video collective Videofreex, an event celebrating critic Jill Johnston, and the absurdly fun Found Footage Festival.

This week, the doctor recommends a discussion about local government to help with all your political ailments, plus the first ever Chelsea Sound, an art and music festival; a Public Art Fund artist talk; a round table about art writing; avant-garde animation, and more.

Don’t worry, honeys. The doctor knows you’re getting the first bit of a fall cold, and she’s got just the thing to make you feel better. She’s keeping it calm this week, with lots of panel discussions and talks that will have you mulling things over while you sip your tea. Try thinking about art-school debt, artist mothers, or urban space, or go listen to Marina Abramović or Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, director of Documenta.

The doctor’s prescription this week is a little bit of a lot of things. She wants you to exercise your mind with two museum panel discussions. She wants you to use your eyes to view art at a number of exhibition openings, including two more unusual and thought-provoking ones. And don’t forget Gowanus Open Studios, plus the final installment of stillspotting.

This week, the doctor says get out, walk around, and enjoy fall with the Art in Odd Places Festival on 14th street, an art walk through Harlem, and Open House New York, an amazing opportunity to see hundreds of notable architectural sites in the city.
