Last Friday’s The Lost Lectures New York was an overwhelming success in our book. Over 750 people attended the one-night underground lecture series that featured scientist Marc Abrahams discussing an opera about an obscure centrifugal birthing device, photographer Barbara Nitke discussing her decades of work documenting the porn industry, performers Flex Is Kings teach us all about the dance style known as flexing, transgender icon extraordinaire Amanda Lepore sharing her life story, anti-blogger Choire Sicha’s dive into the future of the internet, and a live set by Dev Hynes (aka Blood Orange) focused on synesthesia.
We want to give a special thanks to The Lost Lectures team; the crew at the Knockdown Center; all the speakers who shared their knowledge and stories; the artists who allowed us to exhibit their work in the massive space; Perrier, which provided everyone with plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the evening; Nuit Blanche New York, for their lighting and production support; and all the wonderful food vendors, including Green Pirate, Kelvin Natural Slush Co, and Bun-Ker Vietnamese.
As an added treat, guests to #LostLecturesNY got to see newly installed work by artist Richard Nonas and a first look at some new sculptures by renowned artist Joel Shapiro, which arrived only days before the event, fresh from his studio.

The Lost Lectures New York took place at the Knockdown Center (52-19 Flushing Ave, Maspeth, Queens) on April 25, 7pm.
