University at Albany Offers Tuition Waivers and Funding for MFA Students
This affordable interdisciplinary program with well-equipped facilities and private studios is accepting applications for Fall 2024.
The Department of Art and Art History at the University at Albany, SUNY, is accepting applications for Fall 2024 MFA and MA programs in Studio Art. All students in the highly competitive two-year MFA program are offered Teaching or Graduate Assistantship funding and 50% tuition waiver.
Regular studio visits with faculty, peers, and visiting artists are designed to give students a range of contexts and viewpoints within which to consider their work. The objective of the program is to both broaden and deepen students’ understanding of contemporary art to better develop their studio preoccupations. Contemporary art seminars complement studio classes and equip students with insights that allow them to operate with increasing criticality and self-awareness.
In this affordable interdisciplinary program, students work across Painting and Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture and Installation, and Photography and Related Media, and are given 24-hour access to spacious private and semi-private studios, and well-equipped common work areas and production facilities.
The department’s distinguished faculty of artists and art historians work closely with students to develop their graduate portfolios and prepare them for professional practice. As a culminating experience, MFA students exhibit their thesis work in the University Art Museum and MA students mount their thesis exhibition in the Fine Arts Gallery, with public receptions for both.
The Visiting Artists and Lecturers program brings internationally acclaimed artists to campus for public presentations and individual studio visits with graduate students.
Application deadline is February 15, 2024.
