HEED THE CALL (Original image by Phillip Ritz)

Shepard Fairey’s Obey blog just broadcast this out into the universe:

The OBEY CREW is looking for sites in NYC (Manhattan & Brooklyn) that can be used by Shepard Fairey for his mural works in late April to support his exhibition at Deitch Projects opening on May 1st. This is your chance to experience the art and be a part of the OBEY phenomenon, in addition to contributing to the enhancement of the urban landscape. If you are interested in having a genuine Shepard Fairey/OBEY mural, PLEASE CLICK FOR MORE to get all the submission requirements and info. You supply the wall, we supply the art. THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!

So, if you want a “genuine Shepard Fairey/OBEY mural” for free — but only in Manhattan or Brooklyn — join the “OBEY phenomenon” and help contribute to the “enhancement of the urban landscape.”

It almost makes it sound like a social program.

We wish him luck and we hope he finds some good spaces, including at least one in Williamsburg.

The last fresh Faireys I spotted in New York were last November in Chelsea and Williamsburg. I think he was in town to decorate a Levi’s store or something.

  1. It’s revealing that he says it’s a “Shepard Fairey/OBEY” mural. Shepard Fairey is a person, OBEY is a brand, so which is it? Doesn’t the answer determine whether such a mural would really be an “enhancement of the urban landscape” instead of a further degradation of it?
